After a long awaited rumor, The historic Capri Theatre, built in 1939 as the Pix Theatre in Jackson, Mississippi will be restored starting in Spring of 2008. The theatre was built in 1939 as The Pix Theare and operated until 1957 when it closed. It was purchased by Ad Orkin's Cinema Guild Inc in 1962 and was reopened as the Capri Theatre. Cinema Guild Inc fell on hard times financially and closed in November 1980. The Capri Theatre was then reopened shortly after by local owner but had to rely on cheap porn/foreign flicks. It was closed by 1985. After so many years of being closed and used for a second hand clothing shop, it finally reopened in 2002 as a live music venue but still in disrepair. For 4 years, rumors floated about restoring it but it never happened. In 2007, the theatre was sold and is expected to be restored in Spring 2008. it will revert back to its orginal name, The Pix Theatre respectively and reopen for music, independent movies, and live theatre purposes. During the time of the Pix Theatre's opening, it was one of MANY theatres in Jackson, Mississippi... now its the only one left standing besides the Alamo which is used for music only. Finally, another cinema treasure lights up its marquee once again.
