Here's the story from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch about the St. Clair 10 Cine, in Fairview Heights, IL, near St. Clair Square, officially becoming a second-run, discount theater:

St. Clair 10 goes discount

$3 pricing to movie-goers at St. Clair 10 Cine, starting Aug. 26

St. Clair 10 Cine is bringing $3 pricing to movie-goers, plus $1.50 shows on Tuesdays.

Starting Friday, August 26, all films at St. Clair 10 Cine will be $3 a ticket. The cine is switching to a second-run theatre bringing back films guests may have missed or simply want to enjoy again.

During the week, they'll offer an even better deal with HOT Tickets. "HOT" stands for Half Off Tuesdays. All tickets every Tuesday are just $1.50.

St. Clair 10 Cine, located at 50 Ludwig Drive in Fairview Heights, (a short drive from St. Clair Square), offers digital sound, huge wall-to-wall screens and all stadium seating. Movies will still be scheduled throughout the day, including weekdays.

When the theatre launches its $3 prices, the list of films playing will be:

Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (PG-13)

X-Men: First Class (PG-13)

Mr. Popper's Penguins (PG)

Kung Fu Panda 2 (PG)

Thor (PG-13)

Super 8 (PG-13)

Fast Five (PG-13)

Bridesmaids (R)

Green Lantern (PG-13)

Hangover 2 (R)

Actually, Wehrenberg started a discount policy at the St. Clair 10 several months ago, but it was still a first-run house, I believe.

This theater has had its share of bad press the last several years. There have been several incidents, some of which involved fights...and now this happens. Could this be the next Wehrenberg theater to shut down?

For that matter, I'm a little surprised Wehrenberg didn't use this kind of policy at the Kenrick 8 before they closed it.

I guess the kids from East St. Louis may have caused too much trouble over there.
