Tyler Morning Telegraph article

quote:
Demolition Crew Makes Way For New Strip Mall

A crew continues its demolition of a building at 2018 S. Broadway Ave., in Bergfeld Center on Wednesday. Demolition began more than a week ago on the building that most recently housed M.A. Simms & Co. Andy Bergfeld, president of Bergfeld Realty Co., said the building housed the Cinema I and II Theaters, the only two-screen movie house between Dallas and Shreveport, beginning in the 1970s. He said plans are to build a new retail strip on the site. The new building will be similar to ones on Eighth Street, but with slightly different architecture. He said the decision was made to demolish the building and construct a new one to make the lot more marketable.

Sad, I wanted to get pix of that one for the CT collection....there is a pic of what's left at the linkie.

I'm irritated that I drove through Tyler and took pictures of just about everything else but didn't have a solid address for this theatre so I didn't get it. Often all we have is "in the Town & Country shopping center!" which oddly doesn't translate into a map point for Streets & Trips.
