Looking for more data regarding the following information from Paul Rosenberry:

quote:
In Winchester, VA there was a 2-screen drive-in on North Loudon Street that closed sometime between 1985 and 1990

According to another website the only drive-in in Winchester, VA was... the Winchester Drive-In.

The Film Daily Yearbook 1950 lists the Royal Drive-In and the Winchester Drive-In. No addresses though

I was just looking on mapquest trying to jog my memory. I'm pretty sure it was on North Loudon St, somewhere between North Cameron St. and where Loudon turns into Rte 11 and leaves the North end of town. When I lived there (and worked at Cinema VI), the drive-in only ran porn.

I just noticed that mapquest shows the city/county line running right along-side North Loudon so the drive-in may have been technically in Frederick County, not Winchester. I'll ask around... I have family that still lives there and they might be able to help.

Ya that's it, the Winchester Drive-In. Looks like it was a single not a twin, though. As I mentioned it was XXX when I lived there so (cough cough) of course I never went in.

{Edit some more}
Regarding the Royal Drive-In... I hadn't heard of it before and it was gone before I ever lived in Winchester. However there's a convincing aerial photo from 1963, that states it was in operation from 1949 - 1972. A more recent aerial photo of the site shows it's indeed gone. I'm pretty sure there's a hotel, a Waffle House, and some other stuff there now. Bear in mind the first photo is looking southeast, the second is looking north.

Coincidentally, the Camelot I & II is located in that strip mall (Delco Plaza) in the southeast corner of the second image.
