I had heard that AMC would close Renton Village 8 once the Southcenter 16 opens. Even if that happens, the new AMC will be competing with Regal's East Valley 13 and Parkway Plaza 12, which aren't that far away. Seems like a lot of screens in a small area. Plus AMC has its new Kent Station 14 in Kent, which is just a few miles away. Can you say "overbuilding," children?

The Renton Village 8 will be history once the new 'plex opens. I jokingly think that AMC has no interest in operating anything less than a 12-plex.

Overbuilding? You bet. I think the Kent Station is safe (it's about 8 miles away) and I also think Parkway Plaza will do okay (it's close but 'new' enough to still get solid bookings), but the East Valley could definitely be in trouble, seeing that it's about halfway between the two AMCs. Too bad, too. Both Regals were former ACT III builds with all THX auds (no longer certified), and both put on a great presentation.
