Regal announced plans last month for a new 15-plex at Valley River Center. Expected to open next summer??? and will close the current CinemaWorld 8. They are building on the old Montgomery Ward site in the back of the mall. There are plans to put a BIG marquee on the roof to let people know where to go. I'm pretty sure they are doing all staduim seating to compete with Cinemark
CW8 was the last Luxury / Act 3 /Regal cinema. The McDonald closed in 2001 with Castaway. Movieland on W. 11th shut down after that. A new Lowes is under construction right now. It was a drive-in originally then they built a tri-plex in the early 70's. There was the Valley River Twin across the street which is now an Olive Garden. The Oakway theater is now an Old Navy. The Springfield Quad was similar to the CinemaWorld before the remodel. They tried to compete with Cinemark 12, went the discount route the last 2 years. I think it closed in 2000.

2001 was the year Regal shut down a number of their single screens. In addition to the McDonald, the Whiteside in Corvallis and the Longview in Longview, WA, went dark. The Longview Theater is now a skate park. Sad.
