On Labor Day, 2005, the Burnham Plaza Theatre was closed by Village Theatres. Actually, the theatre was evicted by the building's owners who want to convert the building to medical offices. The Burnham was built in 1987, but has had four operators since 1998 (Cineplex-Odeon, Loew's-Cineplex, Meridian, and Village).

The Burnham was one of over 15 theatres built by Cineplex-Odeon circa 1987-1989 in the Chicagoland Area. Nearly all have since closed and virtually none remain operated by Loew's-Cineplex. Can anyone tell me what caused so many modern cinemas to fail?
