After looking through the photos of the theatres in San Francisco I noticed that the Royal Theatre was listed as closed. It was demolished in June of 2003. There are some great photos at http://mistersf.com and then go to the search function and type in Royal. It is the first link that you will find. This is also a great site for photos of other San Francisco Theatres.

I went to the Royal back in 1998 and saw "The Game" with Michael Douglass. It was in really bad shape and not much of the original interior design was left. Only columns in the lobby seemed to still be the way they originally looked. After finding photos of it online I was saddened by how bad it was allowed to become. It is probably not a bad thing that it was demolished. It was also in a very bad area that has been over run with crime and prostitution. It is sad thou that the great facade is gone.

I enjoyed your post William, and most of all the link to the interior photos of days gone by.
